Pirates Collect 11-4 Win Over No. 29 Wingate At Grayson Stadium

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad scored 11 runs over the first four innings to knock off No. 29 Wingate, 11-4, Tuesday evening at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Pirates (12-7) take game one of the two-game mid-week series with the Bulldogs (15-5), with the second game slated for tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. back on Armstrong's campus at Pirate Field.

Armstrong started off quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning off Wingate starter T.J. Rinoski (0-2). R.J. Dennard collected an RBI single and Ryan Patterson delivered an RBI groundout for the first two runs. Berry Aldridge laced an RBI double down the left field line for the third run, then a pair of errors by the Bulldogs on the same play scored the fourth run of the frame.

Wingate got one back in the top of the second inning on Blake Prince's RBI single up the middle, but Armstrong answered in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Tyler Avera. The Pirates added a run in the third inning as Dennard led off with a solo home run to right field, making the score 6-1.

The Bulldogs closed the gap to three with two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a bases-loaded hit by pitch to Blake Prince and a sacrifice fly by Justin Somers, but Armstrong broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by Matt Wisniewski.

Justin Adkins (2-0) notched the win for the Pirates, hurling six innings of five-hit three-run ball, walking three while striking out five. Rinoski took the loss for the Bulldogs, giving up 10 hits and 10 runs - six earned - in 3 2/3 innings of work, striking out three.

Avera and Dennard each had three hits to lead the Pirates offensively, while DeLuca and Clark each had two hits for the Bulldogs and Prince drove in two runs.
