GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Armstrong State University volleyball squad collected a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference win over host Lander University on Friday evening, sweeping the season series from the Bearcats. Set scores were: 25-12, 25-15, 25-16.
Armstrong State improves to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in the PBC, while Lander falls to 18-6 overall and 6-5 in the league. The Pirates continue their weekend league road swing on Saturday, visiting USC Aiken for a 2:00 p.m. contest against the Pacers.
The Pirates hit a stellar .419 in set number one and also used a seven-point service run by junior Brylie Barnette - that included three service aces - to take the first set handily. In the second set, the Pirates trailed 5-3, but sophomore Kristi Vaughn embarked on a 10-point service run that also included three service aces, as well as three straight blocks from sophomore Raquel Kulak, for the 2-0 lead.
Armstrong State finished off the match by hitting .286 with 15 kills in the third set. The Pirates would end up placing three players in double digit kills, led by 12 kills apiece from sophomore Raegan Grooms and senior Kim Brody. Kulak added 10 kills and six blocks, while sophomore Carley Eiken tallied 35 assists. Vaughn had 12 digs and five service aces while Grooms also added 12 digs.
Lander was led on the evening by Halle Dotson's nine kills, Katie Haake's 13 assists and Hannah McManus' 16 digs.
