SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 19-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University volleyball squad earned at least a share of its third straight Peach Belt Conference regular season title with a 3-0 victory over visiting Columbus State on Saturday afternoon at the ARC. Set scores were: 25-12, 25-10, 25-18.
The Pirates (22-0, 14-0 PBC) hold a four-game lead in the league with four matches remaining over Flagler (11-4) and Francis Marion (9-4) after Saturday's victory over the Cougars (16-10, 8-6 PBC), who slipped into a tie for fifth place with the loss.
Armstrong held the Cougars to a negative hitting percentage in taking the first two sets and Columbus State hit just .000 for the match with 22 kills and 22 errors in 72 attacks. The Pirates notched 10 team blocks on the afternoon, including a season-high seven blocks from junior Taylor Permenter.
The Pirates hit .355 as a team with 32 kills and only 10 errors in 62 attacks. Senior Jessica Santaniello led a balanced attack by hitting .545 with seven kills, while Permenter hit .364 with six kills to go with her seven blocks. Senior Megan Pando delivered 27 assists and junior Morgan Hill notched eight digs.
Columbus State was led by Mary McCarty's six kills, Ivana Kazic's 19 assists and Caytlin Merritt's eight digs on the afternoon.
Armstrong returns to action on Friday, November 8, traveling to Flagler for a 7:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match against the Saints in St. Augustine, Fla.
