No. 19 Pirates Earn Berth In PBC Tournament Final With 3-0 Win At Augusta State

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The No. 19-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University volleyball squad knocked off host Augusta State, 3-0, on Saturday evening to advance to the PBC Tournament Final for the fourth straight year and 12th time overall. Set scores were: 25-15, 25-19, 25-17.

The top-seeded Pirates (35-1) will now face second-seeded Flagler - 3-0 winners over UNC Pembroke in the other semifinal match - for a third straight time in the PBC Tournament final. Fifth-seeded Augusta State (16-19) sees its bid for a first-ever berth in the title match fall short.

Armstrong was led by junior outside hitter Amanda Jones, who hit .579 with a match-high 13 kills. Senior Brendyce Budd added 10 kills and three blocks, while junior Ashley Seal notched 37 assists and senior Stacey Davis added 16 digs.

Augusta State was led by Kristen Koch's nine kills, Alex Rohlfing's .438 hitting percentage and eight kills, as well as Krystin Wahlig's 19 assists and nine digs.

The Pirates and the Saints split their meetings this season with each team winning 3-1 at home. Flagler has captured each of the last two PBC Tournament titles with wins over Armstrong. The winner earns the league's automatic bid into the 2011 NCAA DII Volleyball Championships.
