CLEMSON, S.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team opened up action in the Duckworth Fall College Classic, hosted by Clemson University, by finishing third in a pair of doubles brackets on Friday in Clemson, S.C.
The doubles duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova competed in Doubles Flight #1 and knocked off Apostal and Hueckinghaus of Kennesaw State, 8-1, before falling to Noi and Yalauleva of Virginia Commonwealth, 8-4, in the semifinals. The pair then beat East Tennessee State's duo of Choo and Gerbasi, 8-3, in the third place match.
Armstrong also picked up another third place finish in the Doubles Flight #2 as Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa defeated Soldier and Boissenvain of UNC Asheville, 8-2, in the first round match before falling to host Clemson's duo of Miao and Dewar, 8-4. The pair then beat the Winthrop duo of Cridland and Gunaysa, 8-7 (6), in the third place match.
The final bracket of action on Friday for the Pirates saw Dora Andrejzski and Carolina Prats-Millan drop an 8-5 first-round decision to USC Upstate's McNall and Lewis, but rebound to beat Wofford's Martin and Carlson, 8-2, in the consolation semifinals. Tulane's Katz and Clemson's Pederzani teamed to knock off the duo, 8-6, in the consolation bracket final.
Play continues at the Duckworth Fall College Classic on Saturday with singles action beginning at 8:00 a.m.
