BERKELEY, Calif. - Armstrong Atlantic State University senior Barbora Krtickova captured the Gold singles bracket to highlight the Pirates' final day of action at the Cal Nike Invitational on Sunday in Berkeley, Calif.
Krtickova defeated host California's Gessi Estlander, 6-3, 6-3, to earn her berth into the Gold singles bracket final. She then defeated California's Alice Duranteau, 6-0, 6-1, to claim the bracket title.
Senior Olga Kalodzitsa came up short in her White singles bracket final match. She advanced to the final with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Audrey Leitz of St. Mary's, but fell to Catherine Leduc, also of St. Mary's, 6-0, 6-4 in the final.
Freshman Dora Andrejszki notched a win in the White singles consolation bracket final, defeating Marquette's Vanessa Foltinger, 6-2, 6-7 (6), (10-7) in the semifinal on Sunday, then knocking off Regina Suarez of Pacific, 6-0, 6-3, in the consolation final.
Junior Clara Perez lost in her Blue singles consolation bracket semifinal match, falling 6-1, 6-2 to San Jose State's Gaelle Ray.
In doubles action, the duo of Hacke and Kalodzitsa lost in their Gold doubles bracket final match to the California duo of Duranteau and Estlander, 8-6. The duo of Filipovski and Krtickova won the Blue doubles consolation final with a 9-7 win over Marquette's Pimienta and Gebes, while the duo of Perez and Andrejszki notched the White doubles consolation final by walkover over BYU's Daniels and Maddox.
Armstrong returns to action on Oct. 4-6 at the Clemson Fall Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
