Women's Tennis Solid At Second Day Of Cal Nike Invitational
BERKELEY, Calif. - The Armstrong women's tennis team had a solid second day at the Cal Nike Invitational, winning all of its matches in both main and consolation draw action in California on Saturday.
The three singles players still alive in their respective brackets all advanced to the semifinals on Saturday. Senior Marlen Hacke upset the fourth-seeded Zoe Katz of USC, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, to earn her berth into the Gold Bracket semifinals, where she is joined by senior Barbora Krtickova, who beat sixth-seeded MilHadzi Tanovic of San Francisco, 7-5, 6-0.
Senior Olga Kalodzitsa is into the semifinals of the White Bracket after picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ali Dawson of Marquette.
In consolation singles action, junior Clara Perez beat Danielle Flores of St. Mary's, 6-1, 6-0, to move into the Blue singles consolation semifinals. Freshman Dora Andrejszki is into the White singles consolation semifinals after notching a 4-6, 6-0, (10-5) win over Marquette's Rocio Diaz.
Doubles play saw the duo of Hacke and Kalodzitsa move into the finals of the Gold Doubles bracket after notching an 8-4 win over San Jose State's duo of Willett and Leon-Chao, then upsetting top-seeded Sanders and Koehly of UC Davis, 8-3.
Consolation doubles action featured Filipovski and Krtickova knocking off the Sacramento State duo of Boija and Lohscheidt, 8-5, as well as the Pacific duo of Ritterova and Masarova, 8-5, in the Blue doubles bracket. The duo of Perez and Andrejszki beat the Sacramento State duo of Mouzes and McColl, 8-2, as well as the UC Davis duo of Jaramshian and Pham, 8-0.
Play concludes at the Cal Nike Invitational on Sunday with doubles action beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by singles play.
