No. 1 Pirates Take Two PBC Wins On Saturday

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team picked up a pair of Peach Belt Conference wins on Saturday, downing Montevallo and Georgia Southwestern by 9-0 scores on Saturday at Bacon Park.

The Pirates (18-1, 10-0 PBC) continued a pair of impressive streaks with the two wins, stretching their consecutive home match win streak to 123 and their regular season Peach Belt Conference match win streak to 107.

In the first match of the day, the Pirates blanked Montevallo (8-10, 3-8 PBC) by sweeping all three doubles matches and taking all six singles matches in straight sets.

The No. 6-ranked doubles duo of Olga Kalodzitsa and Marlen Hacke downed Niki Polcerova and Anais Robert, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles, while Clara Perez and Natasa Vukovic defeated Haley Highfield and Allison Howell, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. Jessica Gardefjord and Barbora Krtickova finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Lauren Blair and Juanita Ossa at No. 3 doubles.

No. 22-ranked Perez made her debut for the Pirates at the top singles spot and notched a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Polcerova at No. 1 singles. No. 3-ranked Krtickova downed Highfield, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while No. 11-ranked Hacke beat Robert, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. No. 23-ranked Kalodzitsa blanked Ossa, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and Vukovic downed Blair, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles. Jessica Gardefjord completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Meagan Stevens at No. 6 singles.

In the second match, the Pirates gave up just 10 games total in singles and doubles play combined in the win over the Hurricanes (7-16, 0-12 PBC). 

No. 6-ranked Kalodzitsa and Hacke defeated Carly Cangelosi and Victoria Ondo at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, while Perez and Vukovic also won, 8-1, over Taylor Jones and Kalie Douberly at No. 2 doubles. Gardefjord and Krtickova fashioned an 8-1 win over Ginny Jones and Mollie McGowan at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, No. 22-ranked Perez blanked Douberly, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 3-ranked Kritckova similarly downed Cangelosi, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 11-ranked Hacke defeated Ondo, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles while No. 23-ranked Kalodzitsa beat Ginny Jones, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Vukovic bested Taylor Jones, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Gardefjord defeated McGowan, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.

The Pirates return to action on Tuesday, April 2, hosting Flagler in Peach Belt Conference action at 1:00 p.m. at Bacon Park.
