SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University junior Barbora Krtickova has been named the Peach Belt Conference's women's tennis Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.
The No. 2-ranked singles and No. 1-ranked doubles player in nation, Krtickova gave up just 10 games overall in nine combined singles and doubles matches last week against Peach Belt foes. She went 4-0 in singles action, beginning with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ivana Marevic of No. 19 Georgia College on Tuesday. Krtickova then downed Victoria Lindqvist, 6-1, 6-0, of No. 45 Augusta State on Thursday and beat Cameron Williams of North Georgia and Mia Winterbottom of UNC Pembroke by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Nove Mesto Nad Metuji, Czech Republic, native teamed with Aleksandra Filipovski to beat Barksdale and Krupp of GC, 8-2; Lindqvist and Pettersson of ASU, 8-0; Baartvedt and Escobar of North Georgia, 8-1; Dawson and Plevako of Young Harris, 8-0 and Herlocker and Winterbottom of UNCP, 8-2. Krtickova is a perfect 8-0 in singles play this 2013 dual match season and 7-2 in doubles.
This is the first PBC Player of the Week honor for Krtickova this season and third overall - she earned the honor twice as a sophomore in 2012.
Krtickova and the Pirates return to action on Wednesday, hosting No. 37 Lewis University in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match at Bacon Park.
