SAVANNAH, Ga. - The top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team blanked North Georgia, 9-0, in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Bacon Park.
The Pirates (7-0, 5-0 PBC) remain unbeaten on the season with the victory over the Saints (1-6, 0-4 PBC) on Saturday.
Armstrong gave up just four games in doubles play, taking a 3-0 lead heading into singles. The top-ranked duo of Barbora Krtickova and Aleksandra Filipovski beat Mathilde Baartvedt and Natalia Escobar, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, while Clara Perez and Natasa Vukovic defeated Adalyn Hazelman and Cameron Williams, 8-1, a No. 2 doubles. Olga Kalodzitsa and Jessica Gardefjord teamed to beat Nella Handac and Audrey Marlette, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
The Pirates then captured all six singles matches in straight sets to notch the win. No. 2-ranked Krtickova beat Williams, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 8-ranked Filipovski downed Baartvedt, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 33-ranked Perez upended Escobar, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and No. 13-ranked Kalodzitsa notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hazelman at No. 4 singles.
Gardefjord defeated Jordan Poole, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Vukovic completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Handac at No. 6 singles.
Armstrong returns to action on Sunday, hosting Young Harris at 10:00 a.m. and UNC Pembroke at 2:00 p.m. in Peach Belt Conference action at Bacon Park.
