Three Pirates Earn PBC Preseason All-Conference Women's Tennis Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Three members of the defending NCAA Division II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team have been named to the Peach Belt Conference's preseason All-Conference squad, released today by league officials.

Juniors Barbora Krtickova, Aleksandra Filipovski and Marlen Hacke comprise of half of the six-person squad, voted on by the league's coaches.

Krtickova helped lead Armstrong to its seventh national championship and third in four years in 2012.  Returning for her junior year, the ITA All-American and first-team All-Conference selection was 17-4 at #1 singles for the Pirates and 27-2 at #1 doubles. A native of Nove Mesto Nad Metuji, Czech Republic, she was named the 2011 PBC Freshman of the Year.

Filipovski was named first-team All-Conference in both singles and doubles and an ITA All-American in 2012. A junior from Szeged, Hungary, she was named a PBC Player of the Week twice last year after going a perfect 24-0 overall in singles, playing primarily at #2.  She partnered with Krtickova to go 27-2 at #1 doubles. Filipovski is currently ranked #8 in the nation in singles and #1 in doubles.

Hacke was named an ITA All-American for Armstrong last season after going 22-1 overall in singles playing at #4 and #5. A junior from Hamburg, Germany, she was named second-team All-Conference in both singles and doubles last year and was undefeated in singles against conference opponents. She is currently ranked 14th in the nation in singles heading into the 2013 season.

Armstrong opens up the 2013 dual match season on Wednesday, February 6th, traveling to USC Aiken for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Pacers in Aiken, S.C.
