Krtickova, Filipovski Claim ITA "Super Bowl" Titles On Sunday
MOBILE, Ala. - Armstrong Atlantic State University juniors Barbora Krtickova and Aleksandra Filipovski captured the ITA "Super Bowl" of Small College Tennis singles and doubles titles on Sunday at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala, marking the first time in school history that the Pirates have captured the "Super Bowl" singles and doubles titles in the same season.
Krtickova captured the "Super Bowl" singles title with a 6-1, 7-6 (8) win over Tiffany William of Auburn-Montgomery to become the fourth "Super Bowl" champion in Armstrong women's tennis history, joining Zsofia Golopencza (2003), Johanna Dahlback (2007) and Sona Novakova (2009).
She then teamed with Filipovski to win the "Super Bowl" doubles title with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Pietersz and Phiri of Tyler (Texas) JC, becoming the third "Super Bowl" doubles champion in Armstrong women's tennis history, joining Steffanie Loew and Tanja Hoetting (1992) and Krtickova and Alida Muller-Wehlau (2010).
Krtickova will now earn a wild card entry into the singles bracket of the 2012 ITA National Indoor Championships, which will take place on November 8-11, 2012, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. She will also advance with Filipovski into the doubles bracket, returning to the site of her 2010 consolation bracket championship she achieved with Muller-Wehlau.
