No. 3 Pirates Win Battle Of Unbeatens With 7-2 Victory Over No. 7 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team prevailed in a battle of Peach Belt Conference unbeatens on Tuesday, knocking off No. 7 Columbus State, 7-2, in Columbus.
The Pirates (16-0, 10-0 PBC) extended their current streak of PBC regular season wins to 96, dating back to 2003, with the victory over the Cougars, who fell to 19-1 overall and 9-1 in the Peach Belt.
Armstrong collected two of three wins in doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova knocked off the duo of Paola Cigui and Milica Tomic, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 15-ranked duo of Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez downed Andrea Redrado and Renata Paiva, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.
Columbus State's doubles point came at No. 2 doubles as Carolin Weikard and Olivera Jokic defeated No. 10-ranked Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa, 8-2.
The Pirates then captured five of six singles matches to complete the victory. No. 7-ranked Filipovski picked up a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over No. 49-ranked Weikard at No. 2 singles. No. 23-ranked Henry downed Jokic, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, while No. 20-ranked Kalodzitsa defeated Tomic, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
No. 24-ranked Hacke knocked off Redrado, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 5 singles, while No. 30-ranked Perez downed Sandra Jung, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.
Columbus State's singles point came at No. 1 singles as No. 10-ranked Cigui beat No. 4-ranked Krtickova, 6-3, 6-3.
Armstrong returns to action on Friday, April 6, hosting No. 11 Clayton State at 2:00 p.m. at Bacon Park.
