No. 3 Pirates Down No. 10 Francis Marion, 9-0


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day on Monday with a 9-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over No. 10-ranked Francis Marion at Bacon Park.

The Pirates remained unbeaten on the 2012 season with the victory, improving to 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the Peach Belt. Francis Marion suffers only its second loss of the year, falling to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the Peach Belt.

Armstrong honored its lone senior, Kathleen Henry, in a pre-match ceremony. The Pirates then swept all three doubles matches from the Patriots to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. The No. 15-ranked duo of Henry and Clara Perez notched an 8-1 win over Kerry Hall and Caitlin Siney at No. 3 doubles, while the No. 10-ranked duo of Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa bested Tereza Baranova and Julia Graf, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles.

The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova outlasted No. 7-ranked Mona Blauen and Jitka Gavdunova, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.

The Pirates then notched straight-set wins in all six singles matches to complete the sweep. No. 30-ranked Perez beat Siney, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles, while No. 23-ranked Henry collected a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kimberley Hurter at No. 4 singles. No. 7-ranked Filipovski beat No. 21-ranked Blauen, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.

No. 24-ranked Hacke downed Graf, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles while No. 20-ranked Kalodzitsa beat No. 43-ranked Baranova, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. No. 4-ranked Krtickova completed singles play with a 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 win over No. 11-ranked Gavdunova at No. 1 singles.

Armstrong returns to action on Tuesday, April 3, with a showdown with unbeaten and No. 7-ranked Columbus State at 2:00 p.m. in Columbus, Ga.
