No. 4 Pirates Roll On With 9-0 Win Over Lander


GREENWOOD, S.C. - The No. 4-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team picked up another shutout of a Peach Belt Conference foe on Monday, blanking Lander, 9-0, at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center in Greenwood, S.C.

Armstrong improved to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the league with the win and still have yet to drop a point to a league opponent this season. Lander falls to 8-8 overall and 3-5 with the loss.

The Pirates got off to a quick start by sweeping all three doubles matches from the Bearcats. The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova notched an 8-0 win over Aurelia Ruffat and Caitlin Fell at No. 1 doubles, then Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa downed Brandi Cordell and Cayce Bradley, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.

No. 7-ranked Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez finished the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Eliza and Raissa Adusumilli at No. 3 doubles.

Armstrong then notched straight set wins in all six singles matches to complete the 9-0 victory. No. 2-ranked Krtickova blanked Ruffat at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while No. 6-ranked Filipovski won by the same score over Cordell at No. 2 singles. No. 15-ranked Hacke beat Fell, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles while Jessica Gardefjord notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lori Flick at No. 6 singles.

No. 50-ranked Kalodzitsa collected a 6-2, 6-1 win over Eliza Adusumilli at No. 3 singles and No. 18-ranked Henry finished the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bradley at No. 4 singles.

Armstrong returns to action on Wednesday, hosting top-ranked NAIA foe Auburn Montgomery at 1:00 p.m. at Bacon Park.
