No. 4 Pirates Blank Georgia Southwestern On Tuesday


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 4-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team blanked Georgia Southwestern, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action at Bacon Park.

With the win, the Pirates improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Georgia Southwestern falls to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The Pirates notched wins in all three doubles matches, taking a 3-0 lead. The No. 2-ranked duo of Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova defeated Carly Cangelosi and Ginny Jones, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, while Marlen Hacke and Olga Kalodzitsa beat Katie Douberly and Victoria Ondo, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. No. 7-ranked Kathleen Henry and Clara Perez completed the sweep with an 8-0 win over Mollie McGowan and Melinda Vansant at No. 3 doubles.

Armstrong then notched six straight-set singles wins to close out the 9-0 victory. No. 2-ranked Krtickova blanked Cangelosi, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 6-ranked Filipovski downed Douberly, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 50-ranked Kalodzitsa beat McGowan, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and No. 18-ranked Henry bested Ondo, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.

No. 15-ranked Hacke notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jones and Jessica Gardefjord finished play with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Vansant at No. 6 singles.

The Pirates return to action on Monday, March 12, traveling to Las Vegas, Nev., for an 11:00 a.m. match against No. 5-ranked Hawaii Pacific at the Darling Tennis Center.
