Women's Tennis Sweeps Singles Action At Clemson Winter Classic


CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team swept all of its singles action at the first day of the Clemson Indoor Winter Classic on Friday in Clemson, S.C.

The Pirates notched seven singles wins over players from Charleston Southern. Barbora Krtickova defeated Olga Malchova, 6-4, 6-1, at Flight 1 while Aleksandra Filipovski picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Angelica Sidorenko at Flight 2. Kathleen Henry earned a 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 win over Yvonne Hubler at Flight 3 and Olga Kalodzitsa beat Marija Dzakovic, 6-3, 6-4, at Flight 4.

Marlen Hacke notched a 7-5, 6-2 win over Alexandra Walters at Flight 5 and Clara Perez beat Alia Nour, 6-2, 6-2, at Flight 6. Jessica Gardefjord wrapped up the singles action with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Susita Das.

Armstrong then competed in doubles play against No. 14 Clemson with the Clemson duo of Grumulya and Wong downing Filipovski and Krtickova, 8-4, at Flight 1. Clemson's Bek and Koetzer beat Hacke and Kalodzitsa, 8-6, at Flight 2 and Kochanova and Vyskocilova defeated Henry and Perez, 8-1, at Flight 3. Gardefjord teamed with Clemson's Ciolkowski to beat Angelich and Chanel of Charleston Southern, 8-2.

Play continues with both singles and doubles action on Saturday with the Classic wrapping up on Sunday.
