Pirates Strong In Doubles At Clemson Fall Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University women's tennis team excelled in doubles on the first day of the Clemson Fall Invitational on Friday in Clemson, S.C. The Pirates finished first, second and third in the three doubles brackets competed on Friday.
The duo of senior Kathleen Henry and freshman Clara Perez captured the Bronze Flight 3 Doubles bracket with three wins. The pair defeated the duo of Schumilas and Bertani of Mercer, 8-1, then the Georgia Southern duo of Jones and French, 8-4. The two then knocked off Singh and Bossy of UT Chattanooga, 8-5, to claim the bracket title.
The pair of sophomore Marlen Hacke and sophomore Olga Kalodzitsa finished runner-up in the Silver Flight 2 Doubles bracket, going 2-1. The pair defeated Georgia Southern's Maffett and Beeler, 8-2, and the Brenau duo of Choo and Thompson, 8-0, before falling to UT Chattanooga's Hangstefer and Lynn, 8-6 in the bracket final.
Finally, the duo of sophomore Aleksandra Filipovski and sophomore Barbora Krtickova finished third in the Gold Flight 1 Doubles bracket. The pair opened up with an 8-1 win over Nurik and Chadwell of UT Chattanooga, but fell to the unattached team of Koroleva and Gumulya, 8-2. In the third place match, the duo defated Charleston Southern's Makhovic and Dzakovic, 8-5.
Play continues on Saturday with singles action for all players, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Clemson Fall Invitational concludes on Sunday.
