Mitchell, Mayville Earn PBC Weekly Soccer Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University juniors Morgan Mitchell and Meghan Mayville have been named the Peach Belt Conference's Women's Soccer Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday by conference officials.
The duo each had outstanding weeks for the No. 18-ranked Pirates as Armstrong went 2-0-1 with wins over Georgia College and Georgia Southwestern, clinching a share of a second straight PBC title, while earning a 1-1 draw with then-No. 11 Rollins.
Mitchell earns her first career Player of the Week honor for tallying three goals on the week. She became just the third player this season to score a goal against Rollins in the 1-1 draw on Friday, then put in two goals in the first 12 minutes of the Pirates' 7-1 win over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday. Seven of her eight shots on the week were on goal and the Lilburn, Ga., native now ranks tied for sixth in the PBC in goals and leads in game-winning goals with five.
Mayville, meanwhile, earns her first career Goalkeeper of the Week honor for notching her fifth shutout of the season in the Pirates' 1-0 win at Georgia College on Wednesday, making a career-high seven saves in the process. The Savannah native did not give up a goal in one half of action against Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, stretching her conference scoreless streak to an impressive 568:14 minutes - the last goal Mayville has given up in league play was back on Sept. 24. She also stopped four shots in a 1-1 draw against Rollins.
It is the first time that the Pirates have had two weekly honorees in the same week since Sept. 11, 2007, when Kristin Burton and Alyssa Anderson were the league's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Armstrong returns to action on Saturday, October 29, facing No. 11 North Georgia at 1:00 p.m. in Dahlonega, Ga. A win or draw means the Pirates win the 2011 regular season PBC title outright, while a win by North Georgia means Armstrong will share the title with the Saints.
