Jenna Birch Moves Up To Fifth At NCAA South Regional


PACE, Fla. - Armstrong Atlantic State University sophomore Jenna Birch shot an even-par 72 on Monday and sits tied for fifth place after the second day of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Regional at the Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace, Fla.

Birch's two-day, three-over-par 147 total is six shots off the individual lead, currently held by Nova Southeastern's Lilliana Casmisa, who shot a 67 today for a two-day 141 total, three-under-par. Abbey Gittings of Nova Southeastern, the first round leader, is in second with a two-under-par 142 total, while Barry's Nancy Vergara (E, 144) is in third, followed by Florida Southern's Melanie Audette (+1, 145).

The top three teams and the top three individuals not on those teams advance to the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships. With Florida Southern holding a seven-stroke lead over Barry and a 10 stroke lead over Nova Southeastern, Birch currently holds down one of three individual qualifying spots heading into Tuesday's final round of action.

The 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will take place on May 16-19 at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., as a part of the NCAA DII Spring Sports Festival.
