SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 25-ranked University of North Georgia women's basketball team collected a 66-62 Peach Belt Conference victroy over host Armstrong State University on Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
The Pirates fall to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the league with the loss, while North Georgia remains unbeaten in league play at 4-0, also improving to 12-1 on the season. Armstrong State will face its second consecutive nationally ranked opponent on Monday, visiting Columbus State at 5:30 p.m. in Columbus.
North Georgia led 29-22 at the break, then opened up a 13-point lead, 42-29, midway through the third quarter. The Nighthawks still held an 11-point lead, 62-51, with just under four minutes remaining in the game when the Pirates embarked on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to just three, 62-59, on a layup by senior Deundria Clark with 1:03 left.
A game-tying three-point attempt by Machala Raymonville was blocked with 4.3 seconds remaining and the Nighthawks were able to emerge with the victory.
Junior Kasey Drayton collected her first double-double as a Pirate with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Raymonville finished the night with 19 points. North Georgia was led by Kelsey Hutchins' double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Deana Blankinship notched 13 points and Amber Skidgel added 10 points.
