ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Flagler College women's basketball team held visiting Armstrong State University without a field goal over the final six minutes of action to come away with a 64-46 Peach Belt Conference victory on Wednesday evening in St. Augustine, Fla., in the regular season finale for both teams.
Flagler ends the 2014-15 season with a 9-17 record and a 6-13 mark in the PBC, sweeping the season series from the Pirates, who will enter the PBC tournament with a 13-13 overall record and an 11-8 mark in the league. Armstrong will open up action in the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Championships by visiting North Georgia on Saturday, February 28th, for a quarterfinal contest with the Nighthawks.
Senior Amber Howell scored 12 first-half points for the Pirates as Armstrong went into halftime tied with the Saints at 29-all. The Pirates used a 13-4 run early in the second half to take a 46-39 lead with 10:19 remaining in the contest.
Flagler retook the lead on a Teosha Ray jumper with 5:59 left, putting the Saints up by one, 51-50. Armstrong would not record a field goal the rest of the way, garnering just four free throws over the final six minute stretch of the contest.
Howell would lead the Pirates on the night with a season-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and 3-of-5 from the free throw line.
Flagler's Treva Mason led the Saints on the night with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, while Ray finished with 12 points.
