April Jowers Named Daktronics/CoSIDA Southeast Region Softball Player of the Year


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University senior second baseman April Jowers was named the 2012 Daktronics/CoSIDA DII Softball Southeast Region Player of the Year on Tuesday, headlining several awards for the Pirate softball team from CoSIDA.

Jowers, the nation's leading hitter in 2012, repeats as the region Player of the Year after also earning the honor in 2011 and she was one of three Pirates represented on the All-Region team by Daktronics and CoSIDA. Junior pitcher Megan Barnwell was named a first-team pitcher while senior Heather Walker was named to the second team as a designated player. Jowers and Barnwell will advance to national balloting for a chance at Daktronics/CoSIDA All-American softball honors.

Junior outfielder Shelby Duff, meanwhile, earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District III honors released recently. The Springfield, Ga., native carries a 3.63 GPA in radiologic sciences and was a first-team All-Peach Belt Conference outfielder this season. She will advance to national balloting for a chance at Academic All-America honors.
