No. 6 Pirates Split Two Games On Sunday In Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The No. 6-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University softball squad split a pair of games to wrap up action at the Mid-South Classic on Sunday morning in Spartanburg, S.C. The Pirates lost a 2-1 decision to Catawba, but knocked off Lincoln Memorial, 11-4.
Armstrong (19-4) went into the bottom of the seventh inning tied, 1-1, with the Indians in the first game of the day, but with runners on second and third, the Indians were able to bring home the winning run on a fielder's choice to claim the 2-1 win.
The Pirates scored their only run of the game in the sixth as Shelby Duff scored on a balk. Megan Barnwell hurled six innings of two-hit ball, giving up one run while striking out four, and Caitlin Campbell took the loss in game one, giving up the winning run in the seventh without recording an out.
Armstrong broke out the bats in the game two win over Lincoln Memorial, getting 14 hits en route to the 11-4 victory. April Jowers and Baillie Temples each had 3-for-4 games while Duff and Lauren Wilcox each went 2-for-4 with RBIs.
Campbell (8-2) picked up the win against the Railsplitters with five innings of five-hit ball, giving up four runs - three earned - while striking out five.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday, March 6, hosting Wingate in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at the Armstrong Softball Field.
