SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Georgia College men's cross country team captured a season-opening dual meet with host Armstrong State University, 22-33, on Saturday morning on the campus of Armstrong State University.
The meet was the first hosted on campus by Armstrong State cross country since 1992. The Pirates were paced by junior Henning Schein, who placed first in a time of 16:27 over the 5K course. The rest of Armstrong State's finishers featured freshman Cody Reid (5th, 17:35), junior Dylan Smith (8th, 18:25), freshman Caleb Watson (9th, 18:28), freshman Mac Gibbs (10th, 18:34) and freshman George Dyer (11th, 19:13).
Georgia College's finishers were paced by Conner Reynolds, who placed second in a time of 17:12. Austin Vonkutzleben (3rd, 17:21), Austin Campbell (4th, 17:27), Joshua Warren (6th, 17:43) and Andrew Cowick (7th, 18:19) rounded out the Bobcats times.
"I'm very proud of the turnout today," Armstrong State head coach Michael Sergi said. "Several of our freshman runners already bested their high school PRs and we are glad to be making a part of history by hosting our first meet on campus since 1992."
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, September 10th, traveling to Milledgeville to run in the GC Bobcat Invitational.
