Armstrong Men's Cross Country Picked Fifth In PBC Preseason Poll

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong State University men's cross country squad has been picked to finish fifth for the upcoming 2015 Peach Belt Conference season, according to a preseason poll of the league's coaches released today.

The Pirates, who finished fifth at the PBC Championships in 2014, accumulated 43 points and received one third-place vote from the league's coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. UNC Pembroke was picked to finish first with five first-place votes and 76 points total.

Columbus State (70) was picked to finish second, followed by GRU Augusta (69) and Flagler (55) ahead of the Pirates. Georgia College (38) was picked sixth, followed by Montevallo (36), Clayton State (35), Young Harris (18) and Francis Marion (10).

Head coach Michael Sergi's squad returns three runners from last season - PBC Freshman of the Year Henning Schein, Donald Shelton and Guillaume Corneloup - and features two newcomers. The Pirates open the 2015 season on September 4, traveling to Milledgeville, Ga., for the GC Bobcat Classic.
