SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State University senior Pedro Scocuglia captured the ITA Southeast Regional singles title with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over teammate Pablo Gor on Monday afternoon at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
The fourth-seed in the bracket, Scocuglia earns his first regional singles title and advances to the USTA/ITA Small College Championships on Oct. 10-13 in Fort Myers.
Scocuglia had already earned a berth with Gor as the duo captured the doubles title on Sunday. He is the sixth Armstrong men's tennis player to capture the ITA Southeast Region singles crown out of the last seven seasons, joining Georgi Rumenov (2012), Eudaldo Bonet (2008, 2010), Rafael Array (2009) and Robert Jendelund (2007). Previously, Scocuglia had advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regional in 2011 and 2012.
He will try to join Bonet (2008), Rumenov (2012) and Armstrong Hall of Famer Christian Witt (1998) as ITA DII men's singles titlists in two weeks in Fort Myers.
Armstrong men's tennis returns to action on Oct. 4-6 at the Georgia Southern Fall Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
