Three Pirates Earn Preseason All-PBC Men's Tennis Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's tennis team placed three players on the 2012 Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference squad, released today by league officials. Seniors Eudaldo Bonet and Mikk Irdoja, along with junior Matus Mydla, comprise half of the six-member squad.
Bonet was named the 2011 PBC Player of the Year, his second Player of the Year honor in his three seasons with the Pirates. Returning for his senior year, the native of Barcelona, Spain, was named an ITA All-American as a junior and was ranked #1 in the nation in singles following the 2011 year. He was 25-2 in singles last season and named the PBC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Irdoja returns this spring for his final semester of eligibility at Armstrong. The Talinn, Estonia, native was a 2011 ITA All-American in singles and doubles and finished the year ranked #1 in doubles and sixth in singles. He teamed with Rafael Array to capture the ITA ‘Super Bowl’ doubles championship in the fall of 2009 and the team went 43-4 overall in doubles play last year. Irdoja was named the PBC Player of the Year in 2010.
Matus Mydla returns for his junior season at Armstrong after being named All-Conference at singles and doubles last year. The Trecin, Slovakia, native finished 2011 ranked #24 in the nation and was 30-7 overall in singles. He paired with teammate Pedro Scocuglia to earn the 2011 PBC Tournament Doubles MVP title and was 23-2 in singles play during the year.

Armstrong opens the 2012 spring season on Thursday, February 2, visiting No. 18 Saint Leo for a 3:00 p.m. match in Saint Leo, Fla.
