No. 1 Pirates Clinch Tie For PBC Title With 8-1 Win At No. 8 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's tennis team captured a share of its seventh Peach Belt Conference regular season title in the last eight seasons with an 8-1 win over No. 8-ranked Columbus State on Tuesday.
The Pirates (18-0, 8-0 PBC) will look to capture the regular season title outright on Saturday when Armstrong travels to Flagler for a 2:00 p.m. matchup in St. Augustine. Columbus State (16-2, 6-1 PBC) suffers its first league loss of the year.
Armstrong captured two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. The top-ranked duo of Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov knocked off No. 6-ranked Olivier Simonet and Martin Shishkov, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, while Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla beat the duo of Adi Malicbegovic and Michael Trebuhov, 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Columbus State got it doubles point at No. 2 doubles as the duo of Gordon Divljak and Quentin Rayniere knocked off No. 16-ranked Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (4).
Armstrong then notched straight set wins in all six singles matches to clinch the match. Top-ranked Rumenov defeated No. 23-ranked Simonet, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while No. 3-ranked Bonet bested No. 48-ranked Divljak, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. No. 5-ranked Irdoja beat Rayniere, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 3 singles and No. 10-ranked Mydla beat Shishkov, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
No. 32-ranked Lalic downed Zoghlani, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Daniel Regan notched a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Danilo Sardelli
