No. 3 Pirates Blank North Georgia On Sunday


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's tennis team ran its record to 8-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory over visiting North Georgia on Sunday morning at Bacon Park.

The Pirates also remained unbeaten in Peach Belt Conference play with the win, improving to 3-0 in the league, while handing the Saints (7-2, 2-1 PBC) their first league loss of the year.

Armstrong swept all three doubles matches for a quick 3-0 lead. Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov beat Mateus Camasmie and Felipe Friedrich, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, while Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia downed Mathew Guida and Rodrigo Magan, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla followed with an 8-4 win over Giovani Santos and Brandon Sloan at No. 3 doubles for the sweep.

The Pirates then won all six singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. No. 2-ranked Bonet blanked Friedrich, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and Irdoja beat Camasmie, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. No. 39-ranked Lalic knocked off Magan, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and No. 28-ranked Scocuglia beat Guida, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. 

Daniel Regan claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sloan at No. 5 singles and No. 23-ranked Jean-Michel Blouin downed Sam Gantt, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.

The Pirates return to action on Tuesday, March 6, hosting Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt Conference match at 1:00 p.m. at Bacon Park.
