No. 3 Pirates Blank No. 5 Lynn, 9-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 3-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's tennis team knocked off its third Top 10-ranked team of the season with a 9-0 victory over No. 5-ranked Lynn in its 2012 home opener on Friday afternoon at Bacon Park.
The Pirates improved to 7-0 on the season with the win, while Lynn suffered its first loss of the dual match season, falling to 8-1.
Armstrong swept all three dobules matches to take an early 3-0 lead over the Knights. Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov collected an 8-3 win over No. 4-ranked Vlad Cirla and Amaury Van Haelen at No. 1 doubles, while Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla downed George Laffey and Max Kouyate, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia fell behind the No. 8-ranked duo of Luca Pavanelli and Willi Wolfer, 5-1, at No. 2 doubles but rallied for a 9-7 win to earn the doubles sweep.
The Pirates then won all six singles matches, four of which came in straight sets. Rumenov beat his second Top 5-ranked singles opponent of the year with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 5 Wolfer at No. 1 singles, while Irdoja bested Pavanelli, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. No. 9-ranked Mydla beat Kouyate, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and No. 39-ranked Lalic knocked off Van Haelen, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
No. 28-ranked Scocuglia won a 10-point tiebreak in beating Benji Kendall, 4-6, 6-2, (10-8), at No. 6 singles and No. 2-ranked Bonet outlasted No. 12-ranked Cirla, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, in a three-setter at No. 2 singles.
Armstrong wll be next in action on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. against No. 2-ranked Barry at Bacon Park, weather permitting.
