POOLER, Ga. - The No. 5-ranked Nova Southeastern University men's golf team shot a final-round 296 to capture the 2017 Armstrong State Pirate Men's Golf Invitational by 24 strokes on Tuesday at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler.
The Sharks' three-round 873 total was 24 strokes better than Young Harris (897), with No. 7 North Alabama (898) finishing third. No. 22 Flagler (906) and No. 15 Lander (909) rounded out the top five schools. Host Armstrong State shot a 299 on Tuesday to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place out of the 12-team field with a 916 total.
Richard Mansell of Nova Southeastern capped his wire-to-wire individual win on Tuesday with two-over-par 74 total, finishing the tournament with an 8-under-par 208 score, winning by six strokes over North Alabama's Forrest Knight (214).
For the host Pirates, senior Jake O'Bryan shot a one-over-par 227 to finish tied for 14th individually, leading Armstrong State. Junior Jacob Tinsley shot a 74 to finish tied for 21st with a 229 total, while junior Ryan Emery shot a 78 to also finish tied for 21st with a 229 total. Freshman Spencer Ball shot a 75 to finish tied for 32nd with a 232 total and freshman Max Trydefeldt rounded out the team scoring for the Pirates with a 77, finishing tied for 56th with a 238 total.
Armstrong State individual players finishing on Tuesday included junior Gustav Beckvid (231, t29th), junior Tyler Key (232, t32nd), junior Andrew Burgess (232, t32nd), junior Reid Rathburn (239, t58th) and senior Joshua Glossop (247, 65th).
The Pirates return to action on March 13-14, traveling to Valdosta for the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
