No. 18 Pirates Finish Tied For 12th At NCAA South/Southeast Regional
CONOVER, N.C. - The No. 18-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team fired a final-round 298 to finish tied for 12th at the 2012 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional on Wednesday at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C.
The Pirates finished the tournament with an 890 total, tied with Barton for 12th place in the 20-team field. Georgia College (869) won the regional by one stroke over Barry (870), while Nova Southeastern (872), UNC Pembroke (876) and USC Aiken (880) all advanced to the NCAA DII Men's Golf Championships out of the regional.
Senior Matt Motes carded a one-under-par 71 for a second straight day to finish in ninth place overall with a two-day 214 total. He missed out on qualifying as an individual for the NCAA DII Men's Golf Championships by just two strokes.
Junior Jacob Tilton carded a one-over-par 73 to finish tied for 54th individually with a 225 total, while junior Gus Wagoner tied for 70th individually after a 79 on Wednesday to finish with a 228 total. Sophomore Travis Williamson shot a three-over-par 75 to finish tied for 85th with a 231 total while freshman Cory Griffin shot a 79 to finsih tied for 90th individually with a 232 total.
