No. 24 Pirates Finish Fifth At 2012 PBC Championships
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The No. 24-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team fired a final-round 292 to finish in fifth at the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Callaway Gardens Mountain View Course in Pine Mountain, Ga.
The Pirates finished the tournament with an 886 total, finishing 14 strokes off the lead. UNC Pembroke and USC Aiken tied for first with 872 totals and UNC Pembroke captured the 2012 crown in a one-hole playoff. Georgia College (875) finished third, while Columbus State (882) finished fourth.
Freshman Cory Griffin shot a third round of 73 to finish tied for ninth individually with a 219 total, leading Armstrong individually. Sophomore Gus Wagoner also carded a 73 to finish tied for 13th individually with a 222 total, while junior Jacob Tilton shot the day's best round for the Pirates with a one-under-par 71, finishing tied for 21st with a 225 total.
Senior Matt Motes carded a final-round 79 to finish tied for 27th individually with a 226 total, while junior Tyler Erickson rounded out Armstrong's scoring on Tuesday with a 75, finishing tied for 43rd with a 232 total.
Armstrong will now await word of a possible NCAA Championships berth, which would be the 11th straight NCAA berth for men's golf. NCAA regional announcements will be made on April 27th.
