No. 24 Pirates Tied For Sixth At PBC Men's Golf Championships


PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The No. 24-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team shot rounds of 293 and 301 to sit tied for sixth after the first day of the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Callaway Gardens Mountain View Course in Pine Mountain, Ga., on Monday.

The Pirates' 594 total is tied with Flagler College for sixth, 15 strokes off the pace being set by UNC Pembroke, who leads with a 579 total. USC Aiken (582) is in second place, followed by Georgia College (584), Georgia Southwestern (585) and host Columbus State (592).

Freshman Cory Griffin leads the Pirates individually after consecutive rounds of 73 with a two-over-par 146 total, tying for 10th. Senior Matt Motes is tied for 12th individually after rounds of 74 and 73 with a three-over-par 147 total, while sophomore Gus Wagoner is tied for 17th after rounds of 71 and 78 for a 149 total.

Junior Jacob Tilton fired rounds of 75 and 79 for a 154 total, tying for 33rd individually, while junior Tyler Erickson is tied for 48th individually after rounds of 80 and 77 for a 157 total.

Play concludes on Tuesday with a single round of 18 holes, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
