No. 24 Pirates Seventh At Lander Bearcat Golf Classic


GREENWOOD, S.C. - The No. 24-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team shot rounds of 295 and 297 on Monday to sit in seventh place after the first day of the Lander Bearcat Golf Classic at Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood, S.C.

The Pirates have a two-round 592 total, 21 strokes behind tournament leader USC Aiken (571), with Georgia College (581) and Columbus State (585) in second and third, respectively. Carson-Newman (586) is in fourth while Newberry and Flagler are each tied for fifth with 589 totals in the 17-team field.

Senior Matt Motes leads the Pirates individually, tying for sixth after rounds of 70 and 71 for a three-under-par 141 total. Freshman Cory Griffin is tied for 26th after rounds of 74 and 75 for a five-over-par 149 total, while sophomore Gus Wagoner is tied for 38th individually after shooting rounds of 74 and 77 for a seven-over-par 151 total.

Junior Jacob Tilton shot rounds of 77 and 76 and is tied for 51st individually with a 153 total while junior Tyler Erickson shot rounds of 79 and 75, tying for 54th individually with a 154 total to round out the Armstrong team scoring. Junior Justin Wylie, playing as an individual, is tied for 67th after ronds of 76 and 80 for a 156 total, while freshman Taylor Gove - also playing as an individual - is tied for 78th individually after rounds of 78 and 80 for a 158 total.

The Lander Bearcat Golf Classic concludes with a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
