No. 25 Pirates Finish Fifth At Southeastern Collegiate


VALDOSTA, Ga. - The No. 25-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team shot a one-under-par 287 on Tuesday to move up one spot and finish fifth at the 2012 Southeastern Collegiate, hosted by Valdosta State at Kinderlou Forest.

The Pirates tied for the second-best round of the day and finished the two-day event with an 869 total. No. 13-ranked North Alabama ran away with the event, shooting a 274 on Tuesday to win by 14 strokes with an 841 total, ahead of No. 3 Barry (855) and No. 1 Lynn (861). No. 9 West Florida (863) finished fourth, just ahead of the Pirates in the 14-team field.

Armstrong junior Jacob Tilton carded a two-under-par 70 on Tuesday to finish tied for seventh individually with a four-under-par 212 total, his third career Top 10 finish as a Pirate. Senior Matt Motes carded a one-under-par 71 to finish in 15th place individually with a 216 total, while freshman Gus Wagoner shot a one-over-par 73 to finish tied for 44th with a 226 total.

Junior Tyler Erickson also shot a final-round 73, finishing tied for 50th with a 227 total. Freshman Cory Griffin also tied for 50th with a 227 total after shooting a 79 on Tuesday.

The Pirates return to action on Monday, March 18, participating in the Georgia College Bobcat Invitational at Cuscowilla Golf Club in Eatonton, Ga.
