Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Laker Collegiate Invitational
HAMPTON, Ga. - The No. 18-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team fired a final-round 293 to finish fifth at the Laker Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Clayton State, on Tuesday at the Crystal Lakes Golf & Country Club in Hampton, Ga.
The Pirates finished the tournament with an 894 total, 30 strokes behind team champion UNC Pembroke (864). Georgia Southwestern (880) finished second, followed by West Georgia and Coker, who tied for third with 888 totals.
Senior Matt Motes carded a one-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish in 10th place individually with a 219 total. Freshman Cory Griffin carded a final-round 76 to finish tied for 14th individually with a 223 total, while sophomore Travis Williamson fired a 73 on Tuesday to finish tied for 20th with a 226 total.
Junior Tyler Erickson shot the day's best round for the Pirates with an even-par 72, finishing tied for 23rd individually with a 228 total. Junior Jared Wagenaar rounded out the Armstrong team scoring with a 75, finishing tied for 21st with a 233 total. Senior Dustin Allen, playing as an individual, shot a 74 on Tuesday to finish tied for 23rd with a 228 total.
The Laker Collegiate Invitational is the final Fall tournament for the Pirates - Armstrong will be next in action in February during the Spring season.
