Pirates Sixth At 12th Annual LRU/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate


MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University men's golf team fired a first-round 290 to sit in sixth place - just six strokes off the lead - at the 12th Annual LRU/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate on Monday at the Sea Trail Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The No. 18-ranked Pirates trail first-round leader Wingate (284) by just six in a bunched top of the leaderboard. UNC Pembroke (285) is in second, followed by Pfeiffer (287), Barton (288) and Belmont Abbey (289) in the 13-team field. 

Senior Matt Motes leads the Pirates individually after firing a one-under-par 71 on Monday. Juniors Jared Wagenaar and Tyler Erickson, along with sophomore Travis Williamson, are each tied for 21st individually after one-over-par 73 scores. Freshman Cory Griffin shot a two-over-par 74 and is tied for 33rd individually.

Play concludes with a single round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
