Georgia Southwestern Edges Pirate Baseball, 11-10, In 10 Innings

AMERICUS, Ga. - Georgia Southwestern State University plated three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to pick up an 11-10 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over visiting Armstrong State University on Friday evening at Hurricane Stadium.

The Hurricanes improve to 17-22 overall and 9-10 in the PBC with the win, while Armstrong State falls to 16-22 overall and 1-15 in the PBC with the loss. The two teams will wrap up their three-game Peach Belt series with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

Armstrong State built an 8-4 lead through the first six innings, but Georgia Southwestern State plated three runs in the seventh to cut the lead to just one, 8-7.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hurricanes tied the game with two out on an error, sending the game to extra innings.

The Pirates plated two runs in the top of the 10th on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Caleb Slaughter and an error to take a 10-8 lead.

In the bottom of the 10th, GSW got an RBI single from Alex Kranick and an error to tie the game up at 10-all. Zach Barron followed with the walk-off RBI single to give the Hurricanes the win.

Mitch Holloway (5-2) got the win for the Hurricanes, pitching 1/3rd of an inning, giving up two walks while striking out one. Caleb Woods (1-4) took the loss for the Pirates, giving up six hits and four runs - only one earned - in 3 2/3 innings, striking out two.

Mike Warren led the Pirates at the plate with a 3-for-4 day, scoring five runs. Ryan Patterson had two hits and three RBI as well. Georgia Southwestern was led by Kranick's three hits and three RBI, while Will Redding added a 3-for-5 day with two RBI.

The loss dropped the Pirates' record to 0-4 this season in extra-inning games.
