Pirate Baseball Climbs In Pair Of National Rankings


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad continues to climb up the national rankings after last week's action as the Pirates check in at No. 17 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 coaches' poll and No. 9 in the College Baseball Lineup DII national rankings.

The Pirates (20-7) move up three spots in the coaches' poll after going 2-1 last week with a mid-week 11-2 win at Augusta State and a Sunday doubleheader split with Francis Marion, winning game one, 12-4, but dropping game two, 7-4.

St. Mary's (Texas) takes over the top spot in the poll this week, while USC Aiken is the top Peach Belt team in the rankings, moving up to No. 4. Other PBC teams in the poll include Lander (No. 9), Francis Marion (No. 23) and Columbus State (No. 26).

In the College Baseball Lineup DII rankings, the Pirates inched up one spot from No. 10 to No. 9 and are the top-ranked PBC team in the rankings. 

Lander is No. 16 in the poll, followed by Francis Marion at No. 17, Columbus State at No. 19, USC Aiken at No. 24 and UNC Pembroke at No. 30.

Armstrong wraps up its three-game Peach Belt series with Francis Marion on Monday with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Pirate Field.
