Armstrong Baseball Ranked No. 27 In Collegiate Baseball Lineup DII Poll


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University baseball squad checks in at No. 27 in the Collegiate Baseball Lineup's Division II Top 30 preseason poll, released by the collegiatebaseballlieup.com website this week.

The Pirates finished 35-17 overall last season and return their top four hitters, including two-time All-PBC catcher John Roberts, as well as two of their top starting pitchers. Armstrong advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

Armstrong is one of four Peach Belt Conference teams to appear in the poll, including preseason No. 1-ranked Francis Marion. UNC Pembroke is No. 8 and Columbus State is No. 23.

Southern Indiana checks in at No. 17 - the Pirates will host the Screaming Eagles on Feb. 17-19.

Armstrong opens the 2011 season on Friday, February 3, hosting Winston-Salem State at 2:00 p.m.
