FLUSHING, N.Y. - Action begins for the Armstrong Atlantic State University men's and women's tennis players at the 2012 ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
The Pirates are represented in three of the four brackets and in those brackets are the only non-Division I players in the field.
The men's doubles duo of seniors Georgi Rumenov and Daniel Regan will open up action at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, taking on the Illinois duo of Farris Gosea and Tim Kopinski. If victorious, the pair would play a second consecutive match on Thursday, facing Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State, who earned a first-round bye and were ranked No. 41 in the nation in Division I in the preseason 2012-13 ITA rankings.
On the women's side, the duo of seniors Aleksandra Filipovski and Barbora Krtickova will take on the Southern Cal duo of Gabriella DeSimone and Zoe Scandalis in first-round action at 9:00 a.m. Should the pair win that match, they would also play a second consecutive match on Thursday, taking on Isaura Enrique and Samantha Vickers of Tulsa, who earned a first-round bye.
Krtickova will then begin her action in the singles draw on Thursday following two rounds of doubles action. She will take on Kate Turvy of Northwestern, the No. 12-ranked singles player in Division I in the preseason 2012-13 ITA rankings.
